Flora McGrath is the child of a mute Scottish musician who moved into New Zealand to marry in the 19th century. When she was a teenager, she moved into the United States. Paquin was in a brief role in the film's title role when she was a child on Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (1996) as well as she was a leading character in the film Fly Away Home (1996). Paquin played Frankie Addams, a character in Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding in 1997. In Steven Spielberg's Amistad in 1997 her character was the Spanish queen in a lesser part. The actress played teens as teenagers in Hurlyburly (1998) She's All That (1999) as well as A Walk on the Moon (1999) as well as the character of a groupie Polexia Aphrodisa on the screen in Almost Famous (2000).
